Plus old games (like 90s stuff and indie games). This is ~plenty~ of performance for the internet, media, and office work. I use a 13'' 2014 with the 256 GB SSD (so base i5, 8 GB RAM). Now that being said my use case is way different than yours. If mine broke today and I could buy an equivalent device for $250, I would probably jump on it. Macs are back but if you can't buy new buy 2013-2015 and preferably 2015 since they can run MacOS 12 with everything else being true. It wasn't till the late 2019 with the 16" that there was anything worthy of replacing my 2013 Pro though I'm glad I held off as the M1 chip has me pining for a new Apple Silicon powered 16". I had a one year old replacement battery in mine at the time to be fair but really? Also the 2019 could render a little faster but given the 5½ year gap it was a little sad.
Incidentally my 2013 15" MBP had better battery life than a friends early 2019 15" MBP running the same apps when the 2019 was new. Heck the battery life was so lack luster Apple removed the time remaining indicator from the battery icon in the menu bar to avoid embarrassment. Frankly 2016 though early 2019 Macs just aren't that great as that 2016 redesign made them have worse thermals than late 2013-2015 models. A WD Black SN750 is a good drive for the money and I know works well from personal experience.Īnyway, they are decent machines and if your budget can't allow for a M1 Mac. Make sure to look at a list of NVMe drives that are supported. Just make sure it's running Mojave or later already since those adapters require a firmware update.

It's honestly not too bad for the price if in good shape as it is in line with eBay prices though a bit on the high side.
